Bahria University Islamabad Campus welcomed Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, on 9 September 2026 for a comprehensive visit focused on reviewing the university’s academic and institutional progress and exploring key areas of higher education, research, technological innovation, and student development. 

The visit provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement between the Higher Education Commission and Bahria University’s leadership, highlighting the university’s continued efforts to strengthen its academic ecosystem, enhance research capabilities, adopt emerging technologies, and provide students with opportunities that support their academic, professional, and personal development. 

The Chairman was received by the Rector Bahria University, Vice Admiral Abid Hameed HI(M). During the visit, he was briefed on Bahria University’s academic ecosystem, which encompasses its campuses, diverse disciplines, academic programmes, research activities, and institutional initiatives. The briefing also highlighted the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of teaching and learning while strengthening research, digital infrastructure, innovation, and student support mechanisms. 

The engagement provided an overview of Bahria University’s approach towards preparing students for the evolving demands of higher education and the professional world. With technological advancement and emerging fields continuing to reshape industries and academic disciplines, the university continues to focus on creating an environment that combines quality education with research, innovation, practical learning, and opportunities for students to develop relevant future-oriented skills. 

Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education and Research 

As part of his visit, Chairman HEC visited Bahria University’s Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence. The Centre represents the university’s focus on strengthening research and academic capabilities in one of the most rapidly evolving areas of technology. 

During the visit, Chairman HEC was briefed on the Centre’s research direction, ongoing projects, and areas of academic and technological development. The briefing also highlighted the Centre’s role in supporting AI-driven teaching and research while facilitating opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry. 

Artificial Intelligence has become an increasingly important component of the global higher education and research landscape. Bahria University’s continued investment in AI education and research reflects its commitment to developing academic and research capabilities that respond to emerging technological trends and contribute to innovation.

Chairman HEC also visited Bahria University’s Cyber Security Lab, where he was briefed on the university’s initiatives in cybersecurity education, research, and practical training.

New Sports Arena Inaugurated at Health Sciences Campus 

Another significant highlight of the visit was the inauguration of Bahria University’s new Sports Arena at the Health Sciences Campus, Islamabad. 

The facility has been developed around a futsal court and two padel courts, adding to the university’s sports and recreational infrastructure and creating new opportunities for students to participate in physical activities and sports. 

At Bahria University, student development extends beyond the classroom. Sports and recreational activities play an important role in promoting physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and interpersonal skills. The new Sports Arena provides students with an additional platform to participate in sporting activities and maintain a balanced university experience. 

The inauguration further reflects Bahria University’s commitment to developing an environment that supports the holistic development of its students. By combining academic opportunities with sports, extracurricular activities, and student engagement, the university continues to promote a broader educational experience.
