Clinical Research Retreat

The Research Cell, Bahria University College of Medicine (BUCM) organized a Clinical Research Retreat on 27th August 2026 for clinical faculty members. The retreat was designed to provide a focused and collaborative platform for clinicians to identify meaningful research questions arising from their clinical experiences, observations, and existing gaps in practice.

The session was facilitated by Sr. Prof. Dr. Wafa Omer, Prof. Dr Huma Amin, Dr. Saira Karimi, Dr. Aisha Nasir Hashmi, Dr. Fizzah Abid, Dr. Nesheman Huma, and Dr. Maryam Arshad, who guided the participants throughout the various activities and discussions.

The session commenced with a welcome and introduction, highlighting the purpose, objectives, and expected outcomes of the retreat. Participants were then encouraged to individually identify two to three potential research questions or clinical problems based on cases, experiences, and gaps observed in their respective clinical fields.

Following the individual exercise, participants shared their research questions with the group. Similar and overlapping ideas were identified and grouped into broader research themes. An interactive discussion was then held to explore the relevance and feasibility of the proposed research questions, including available data and resources, ethical considerations, and potential opportunities for collaboration.

The participants collectively prioritized the most relevant and feasible research questions, narrowing them down to key research areas for further development and potential implementation. An action-planning session was subsequently conducted, during which lead clinicians were identified and preliminary next steps were outlined, including literature review, protocol development, ethical approval, and identification of potential collaborators.

The retreat concluded with a recap of the prioritized research areas, assigned responsibilities, and agreed-upon next steps, along with plans for future follow-up. Overall, the Clinical Research Retreat provided a productive platform for strengthening the culture of clinical research and transforming practical clinical observations into focused, feasible, and actionable research projects.
