Building a Responsible Information Environment in Pakistan

Bahria University Islamabad, through its Department of Media Studies, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, organized a National Roundtable Conference on “Building a Responsible Information Environment in Pakistan: Shared Roles of Institutions, Media, and Citizens."

The roundtable brought together leading journalists, media professionals, policymakers, academics, and civil society representatives for a comprehensive dialogue on misinformation, disinformation, media ethics, artificial intelligence, public trust, and the evolving information ecosystem. The discussion highlighted the importance of media literacy, responsible journalism, evidence-based communication, and stronger multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote a more informed and resilient society.

Dialogue on Responsible Information Practices

Participants emphasized that the growing complexity of today’s information environment requires collective responsibility from all stakeholders. The need for ethical journalism, critical thinking, and fact-based communication was strongly underscored as essential elements in countering misinformation and strengthening public trust.

Academia–Industry Engagement and Collaboration

Following the roundtable, a distinguished delegation met with the Rector of Bahria University. The discussion focused on the importance of aligning academic programs with evolving media industry requirements and emerging communication trends.

Opportunities for internships, joint research, professional training, and collaborative initiatives were explored to enhance students’ practical learning experience and better prepare them for future professional roles in the media landscape.

The engagement reinforced the importance of sustained collaboration between academia, media institutions, and industry stakeholders.
