Psychological Well-Being Centre (PWBC)

Bahria University College of Medicine is committed to fostering a healthy, supportive, and inclusive academic environment. In alignment with this commitment, the College operates a Psychological Well-Being Centre (PWBC) to promote mental wellness, facilitate early identification of psychological concerns, and ensure timely access to appropriate care for members of the BUCM community.
Governance and Institutional Support
The PWBC is presently run by the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences. The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences is headed by Brig (R) Farrukh Hayat Khan, Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Associate Professor, who provides strategic oversight and clinical leadership for the Centre and its related services.
Counselling Cell
A key component of the PWBC is the Postgraduate Counselling Cell, which functions as a structured support and referral facility for students. The Counselling Cell operates under the supervision of Brig (R) Farrukh Hayat Khan and is supported by:

The Counselling Cell provides confidential assessment and counselling support, and facilitates referral to psychiatric services when clinically indicated.
Service Delivery and Outreach (2025)
In 2025, the Counselling Cell provided support to 35 medical students. Students were counselled and, where required, were referred to a psychiatrist for further evaluation and management.
In addition to student support, the PWBC also provided assistance to faculty and staff with mental health concerns, reaffirming BUCM’s commitment to well-being across its academic and professional community.
Awareness, Education, and Capacity Building
To strengthen mental health literacy and encourage help-seeking behaviour, the PWBC conducted interactive awareness lectures and workshops over the year. These activities aimed to:

The Psychological Well-Being Centre remains dedicated to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for learning and work at BUCM, with an emphasis on confidentiality, accessibility, early support, and appropriate referral pathways. Through counselling, clinical oversight, and ongoing awareness initiatives, the PWBC continues to contribute to the holistic development and well-being of the Bahria University community.
