CORE-ECE

The Centre of Research Excellence: Earth, Climate & Environment (CORE-ECE) has been established with a vision to serve as a as a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing research, knowledge exchange and collaborations in the fields of Earth, climate, and environmental sciences. The Integrated services of CORE-ECE work on research and strategic activities, commercial and analytical services, collaboration and capacity building. The centre comprised of geological, environmental & geophysical laboratory to provide a wide array of services including geological surveys, environmental monitoring, material analysis, organic and inorganic analytical services, water and waste water quality assessment.

Inauguration

CORE-ECE was inaugurated by Honorable Rector Bahria University Vice Admiral Abid Hameed, Hilal-i-Imtiaz Military and our worthy chief guest Dr. Shazra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, The Minister of State for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan.

Message from the Head of CORE-ECE

Welcome to the Centre of Research Excellence in Earth, Climate and Environment (CORE-ECE).

Our vision is to bring together academia, industry, government organizations, and communities to address emerging environmental challenges. Through our laboratories, training programs, and collaborative initiatives, CORE-ECE aims to translate scientific knowledge into meaningful solutions for environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and responsible development.

We believe that impactful research is strengthened through collaboration and youth involvement. CORE-ECE therefore welcomes partnerships with universities, research organizations, industries, government institutions, and international partners to develop innovative projects, share expertise, green skills, capacity building, and youth empowerment and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future.

Research Lead Geophysics

Dr. Muhsan Ehsan

Dr. Muhsan Ehsan is an exploration geophysicist with more than 10 years of experience in academia and research. His expertise includes petrophysics, shale gas, hydrogeology, geothermal exploration, reservoir characterization, petroleum geology, source rock evaluation, groundwater assessment, and water resources management. He has extensive experience in applying advanced reservoir characterization techniques and machine-learning methods to geoscientific problems. He has successfully completed several research projects funded by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. His research and professional geophysical investigations focus on developing practical solutions for subsurface resource evaluation and management.

Research Lead Geology

Dr. Mumtaz Ali Khan

Dr. Mumtaz Ali Khan is a Petrologist with over 15 years of experience in academia and research. His expertise spans petrography, mineral exploration, geotechnical investigation of rocks, and geological characterization. He has worked extensively on well cuttings, heavy metal exploration projects, and petrographic analyses to support mineral exploration and engineering geology studies. His research and professional work integrate microscopic rock characterization with geochemical and geological investigations to provide practical solutions for resource evaluation and geotechnical applications.

2. Our Expertise

CORE-ECE provides specialized research and analytical testing services across the fields of environmental science, geology, geophysics, geotechnical engineering, and rock investigation. The Centre also offers environmental monitoring, consultancy, capacity-building, and collaborative R&D services to academia, industry, government, and other stakeholders.

3. Research & Technical Capabilities

a. Advanced Instrumentation

Information: CORE-ECE provides high accuracy analysis with state of the art instruments including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Gas chromatography (GC & GC-MS), High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS).

b. Environmental Science Lab

Information: CORE-ECE has EPA certified lab for all kinds of water and soil analysis. Laboratory is fully capable to investigate all water and wastewater parameters, soil analysis, microbiological analysis from all medium, microplastic, solid waste analysis

c. Geophysical and Geotechnical

Information: CORE-ECE is equipped with 1D and 2D resistivity meter and ground penetrator radar for land data acquisition. Geotechnical lab provide comprehensive soil and aggregate testing support geotechnical investigation, foundation design, work for construction and infrastructure development.

d. Geological and Rock Investigation

Geological laboratory has the facility of thin section and blue dyed thin section preparation of rock samples. The labs provide core examinations and physical testing of rock samples.
