Topic Brief Description:

Pakistan’s trajectory reflects a complex interplay between its aspirations for revival based on Islamic ideals and the realities of governance and development in the modern world. The nation’s struggles with political instability, ethical values, commitment to law and discipline, and inadequate emphasis on knowledge advancement underscore the need for a critical examination of its adherence to the Quranic framework for national prosperity. This research critically examines the rise and fall of nations through the lens of the Holy Quran, with a particular focus on Pakistan.

Research Objectives/Deliverables:

  1. To explore why the Holy Quran discusses the phenomenon of the rise and fall of nations and understand the underlying purpose and wisdom behind this discourse.
  2. To identify the specific principles and factors outlined in the Quran that contribute to the rise and fall of nations.
  3. To critically analyze and compare Quranic principles with other reasons and theories proposed by scholars regarding the rise and fall of nations.
  4. To propose a pathway for national prosperity and resilience based on the Quranic principles, emphasizing faith, ethical values, commitment to law and discipline, and knowledge advancement.
  5. To evaluate how effectively Pakistan adheres to the Quranic principles necessary for the rise of nations and identify areas for improvement to align the nation’s development with these ideals.

Research Questions: 

  1. What is the purpose and wisdom behind the Quran’s discourse on the rise and fall of nations, and how does it guide human societies?
  2. What are the core principles outlined in the Quran that determine the prosperity or decline of nations?
  3. How do Quranic principles regarding the rise and fall of nations compare with other scholarly theories in political and social thought?
  4. How can a framework based on Quranic principles address modern national challenges and foster prosperity and resilience?
  5. To what extent does Pakistan align with the Quranic principles for national development, and what areas require improvement?

Candidate’s Eligibility Profile:

  1. The applicant must have an MS/MPhil/Equivalent degree in International Relations with CGPA > 3.0.
  2. Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. We value independence and responsibility while promoting teamwork and collaboration among colleagues.
