Bahria University hosts 1st International Conference on ‘Conventional & Unconventional Resource Exploration Hydrocarbon Energy & Challenges’ CUREHECS-2016

KARACHI : Bahria University Karachi Campus hosted 1st International Conference on ‘Conventional & Unconventional Resource Exploration Hydrocarbon Energy & Challenges’ CUREHECS-2016, a two-day conference organized on 21st and 22nd September, 2016. The purpose was to bring together researchers from academia and petroleum industry to exchange their research ideas/ work and to discuss the state-of-the-art research in the hydrocarbon exploration.

Honorable Mr. Syed Wamiq Bokari, Managing Director & CEO of Pakistan Petroleum Limited inaugurated the conference. While addressing the audience of the conference, he emphasized on the importance of oil and gas sector and the challenges that are being faced in this respect.  He said that Pakistan is soon going to be the 5th most populous country in the World. It is crucial for us to explore the untapped resources hidden beneath the earth, for our energy needs, economy and development. We must now be focusing on the offshore potential of Pakistan, as till now all the exploration work is restricted on onshore only.  Law and order situation is steadily improving and with this we are confident that we will be able to attract multinational companies to carry on exploration work in Pakistan.

Rector Bahria University, Vice Admiral (R) Tanveer Faiz HI(M) thanked all the participants during his welcome address. He specifically mentioned that the conference is aimed at providing resolves to the energy sector, as it remains the hallmark of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative taken by the Government of Pakistan. The energy sector being within the ambit of CPEC is expected to identify ample resources for the ensuring industrial zones along CPEC routes, en route to country’s economic progress. We can succeed only with continued interest and support from diverse parties including industry and the academia.

Distinguished international keynote speakers Professor Dr. Bilal-ul-Haq, Mr. Philip Goldstone and Mr. Pablo Saldungaray were the keynote speakers at the conference. A large number of speakers from home and abroad also attended the conference.

The conference, a joint venture between Bahria University and Pakistan Petroleum Limited aimed at providing an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present their contributions and exchange ideas related to various challenges in the domain of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon resources.
