Rear Admiral Pervaiz Asghar (Retd) HI(M) has had an eventful naval career during which he commanded two destroyers as well as the 25th Destroyer Squadron. He subsequently did a three year post-retirement stint as the Director General of the National Centre for Maritime Policy Research, during which time he drafted out a comprehensive National Maritime Policy and National Maritime Strategy, the former being under deliberation for adoption. He has also assisted the PN War College by preparing the initial draft of the National Maritime Doctrine. During the successful 38-year long naval career, He had command two destroyers as well as the 25th Destroyer Squadron. Rear Admiral Pervaiz Asghar (Retd) HIM also served as the Flag Officer Sea Training. He did his Principal Warfare Officers course from HMS Dryad, UK in 1979, his staff course from the Royal Naval Staff College at Greenwich, in 1983-84 and his war course from the National Defence College, Islamabad in 1998-99.
He has participated in various maritime conferences, most notably the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium held in Dhaka in January 2016 and the Seapower and Security Symposium organised by the Turkish Naval War College in April 2016. He has written extensively on maritime matters, with his articles being published in various magazines, periodicals and newspapers.
