“Contemporary Issues of Pakistani Seafarers: Challenges and Options”
9th Aug 18: National Centre for Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR) Karachi chapter of Institute of Maritime Affairs (IMA) organized a Maritime Discourse on “Contemporary Issues of Pakistani Seafarers: Challenges and Options” at Fatima Jinnah Hall, Bahria University Karachi Campus. Captain Anwar Shah, Member Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) Board of Directors and former Director General Ports & Shipping graced the event as the chief guest, while Mr. Adam Panjri, from Pakistan Seamen’s Union (PSU) presented a talk on the subject of the discourse.
Cdre (Retd) Ali Abbas SI(M), Director NCMR Karachi greeted the participants in his welcome address. Mr Adam Panjri, while deliberating on the subject, highlighted the different challenges faced Pakistani seafarers at national and international level. He suggested that government should take concrete measures to strengthen national shipping fleet to enhance the employment opportunities for Pakistani seafarers. The talk was followed by an interactive and valuable discussion where learned audience also shared their valuable thoughts on the theme. The event was attended by serving and retired naval personnel, faculty members, students, seafarers, government officials and maritime stakeholders.
