DUTCH MARITIME DELEGATION VISIT TO PAKISTAN (11 – 15 FEBRUARY 2019)
The Dutch Maritime Delegation comprising of diplomats and reps of various Dutch Maritime Industries visited Pakistan from 11 to 15 February 2019. During the visit team comprising of officers from National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) and National Centre for Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR) participated in a number of activities. The Dutch delegation was extended invitation for the closing ceremony of 8th International Maritime Conference (IMC 2019). The delegation headed by H.E Mrs Ardi Stoios-Braken, Ambassador of the Netherlands, graced the occasion by their presence and they appreciated the edifying gathering. A knowledge seminar was organized by Dutch Embassy in Marriot hotel Karachi 12th February 2019. NCMPR Honorary Fellow Vice Admiral (Retd) Asaf Humayun HI(M), delivered a presentation on “Maritime Landscape of the Pakistan”. During his talk he discussed the various contours of maritime sector of Pakistan including; historical evaluation and contemporary state of maritime affairs. Emerging opportunities in the context of CPEC and support/potential of the country was also emphasized. The presentation also highlighted the brief history of interaction between Pakistan and Netherland at state level. The event was attended by approximately 60-70 personnel of various maritime organizations of Pakistan. After opening remarks by Dutch ambassador the representative of Dutch maritime companies gave overview/business of their respective companies. Dutch delegation was primarily composed of business community from Netherlands and was focused to expend their economic motives. Pakistan Maritime stakeholders can undertake joint business ventures in mutually beneficial areas and Pakistan can learn a lot in the field of ships construction, port facilities, dredging, automation, offshore drilling etc.
