I Commodore (Retd) Ali Abbas SI(M) feel profound privilege to introduce National Centre for Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR), Karachi as its Director. NCMPR(K), established in 2007 under the direction of Government of Pakistan, has been working as a premier think-tank on Maritime Affairs and related policy issues. The horizon of the Centre has been expanded since November 2016 with establishment of National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) at Islamabad as a national body with addition of another Centre (NCMPR) at Islamabad. The mandate of NCMPR(K) includes multidisciplinary study and analysis of Maritime Affairs to provide guidelines and solutions to challenges in Maritime Domain.
The Centre engages eminent and renowned researchers to probe into the maritime policy matters and extract concrete policy recommendations. Activities and interests of NCMPR include focused research in the following fields with the aim to recommend policy measures and practical steps for safeguarding and advancement of Maritime interests of Pakistan.

The primary thrust of the work carried out by NCMPR revolves around maritime affairs. The Centre conducts regular workshops, meetings, intellectual discourses, seminars with academicians, maritime expert’s, stakeholders, policy makers and researchers so as to create an intellectual environment that facilitates furthering of our research in the maritime domain. NCMPR also organizes International Maritime Conference (IMC) biennially (so far 7 IMCs have been held). Proceedings of these conferences are published and distributed to national/international organizations, government departments, educational institutions, think-tanks and commercial entities.
NCMPR encourages innovation in thinking about maritime issues and welcomes young scholars of Bahria University for research in Maritime domain. Similarly the Centre closely interacts with all stakeholders by providing a platform for discussion on related issues for enhancing Maritime awareness in the in the Country.
