BS Geophysics

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers BS (4 years) and MS (2 years) degree programs in Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Sciences. In a short span of ten years it has joined the ranks of highly reputed institutions in the field. The graduates of this department employed by national and multinational companies have proven, that it strives for highest of the academic standards. Field trips make the essential part of the syllabus taught. Student chapters of professional organizations such as Society for Exploration Geophysicist (SEG) and Pakistan Association of Petroleum Geologists (PAPG) and the Green Environment Club provide them the opportunities to participate in and organize seminars, workshops, lectures and conferences, etc.

Natural hazards and disasters: The need for hazard and disaster studies, Historical background on Hazard and Disaster research; Disaster its types: Natural vs Man-made; Flooding, Earthquake, Landslide; Natural cycles and their role, Prediction; Hazards, Risk and Vulnerability: Definitions and characterization, Different approaches and Indicators; Factors of vulnerability: Demographic factors, Socio-economic factors, Cultural factors, Political factors, Physical factors; The impact of natural disasters: Direct and short-term impact of disasters, Indirect and long-term consequences of catastrophes, Disaster as an opportunity for development; Organizational Role.

GEO 436 Health, Safety and Environment(3 CH)

Definition and Concept of Environment related Human health problems. Public health concept: communicable and non-communicable diseases, water borne, air borne, food borne and sanitation related diseases and control measures.
