GEEKS 2017 Closing Ceremony

Bahria Innovative Technology Society (BITS) of Bahria University organized closing ceremony of ‘GEEKS-2017’ an Open House Exhibition & Project Competition under the aegis of Electrical Engineering Department of Bahria University Karachi Campus on 11 May, 2017 at Bahria University Karachi Campus. GEEKS 2017 is a project contest where contestants presented scientific and technological solutions for improving the quality of life.

Besides meeting with the Industrial professionals and academia, GEEKS also aimed at providing an opportunity to the graduating students to demonstrate their projects and get a chance to win cash prizes as well.  The highlight of the event was conduct of a separate session of Industry-academia representatives. The session focused on discussing ways and measures to promote research and work on industry driven projects.

Director General Bahria University Karachi Campus Vice Admiral (R) Khawaja Ghazanfar Hussain HI(M) expressed gratitude to all guests, participants and organizers, and said that the event has achieved its aim to provide comprehensive platform to Engineering Universities students to display their applied Engineering innovation and knowledge and interact with professionals from industries, academia and research organizations. He further added that our Industry partners are an integral and very central part of this event and their support is necessary for better Industry-University collaboration. He congratulated Dr. Haroon Rasheed, Head of Department of Electrical Engineering for organization of a remarkable event.

Mayor Karachi, Mr. Waseem Akhtar graced the Closing Ceremony with his presence as the Chief Guest. He urged to realize that the knowledge, skills and competencies acquired through education will only be valuable if students are able to scan our environment to identify challenges and opportunities available to them. He congratulated Bahria University for organizing this event and said that the fact that Bahria University is in constant pursuit of provision of better and high quality education to the students with more advanced, innovative and improved methods is appreciated.

Dr. Haroon Rasheed, Head of Department of Electrical Engineering emphasized that academic-industrial collaboration is a valuable tool that not only accelerates the progress but also enhances the quality of the work, learning tools and knowledge for both faculty and students. GEEKS strived to provide a opportunity for such collaborations by bringing together engineering graduates, academia and industries to share their thoughts and contributions to the real-world problems and their practical solutions. He also thanked the Chief Guest Mr. Waseem Akhtar for his presence, and the management of Bahria University for rendering support in the organization of the event.

The event concluded with prize distribution amongst the winners and runners-up of Final Year Projects, Line Following Robots and Industry-Academia Activities at GEEKS.
