KARACHI : Bahria University Karachi Campus hosted 1st National Conference on “Emerging Trends and Innovations in Computing & Technology” (NACTICT ‘16), a two-day conference organized on 15th and 16th March, 2016. The aim of this conference was to provide a platform for linkages between Industry Professionals and Academicians at the National Level. This linkage intends to lead towards the development of new Innovation Systems and the use of future oriented technologies for the betterment of Pakistan.

Honorable Mr. Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, Sindh Senior Minister for Education and Literacy inaugurated the conference. While addressing the audience of the conference, he emphasized on the role of educational institutions to embark upon the platform of research and innovation in order to meet future challenges. He emphasized on conference participants to bridge the bond between research scholars, industry professionals, private sector and decision makers through such initiatives. In this regard, the industry has a very important role in the country’s economics, therefore, all have to come forward, gloves in hand in order to develop the university – industry linkages, he added.

In his welcoming remarks, Director General Bahria University Karachi Campus, Vice Admiral (Retd) Khawaja Ghazanfar Hussain HI(M) thanked Higher Education Commission and other sponsors for their support.

He said that this is the era of Computer Science and IT, so this conference will bring together researchers who are working in the fields such as Big Data, Security, Intelligent Systems, Natural Language Processing , Artificial Neural Networks and many more other important disciplines. The aim is to stress upon the need to enhance the learning and provide opportunities to solve future challenges regarding Computer Technology. But we can succeed only with continued interest and support from diverse parties including industries, the academia, the government, and investors. In addition, we at BUKC will boldly and resourcefully meet the challenge posed by commercialization instead of merely focusing on the academic aspect.

Various national speakers spoke during plenary sessions. Dr. Syed Nasir Mehmood Shah,
Head Department of Computer Science, KICSIT, Dr. Hammad Raza,
Assistant Professor National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Dr. Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Associate Professor Department of Computer Science Bahria University Islamabad Campus and Dr. Tariq Mehmood, Assistant Professor, PAF-KIET Karachi, Dr. Najam-ul-Islam, Dean Engineering Department, Bahria University were the key notes speakers at the conference.

The conference, a joint-venture between HEC and Bahria University, aimed at providing an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present their contributions and exchange ideas related to various challenges in the domain of Autonomous Computing, Communication and Networking and Software Engineering. The purpose was to bring together researchers from academia and industry to exchange their ideas and results, and to discuss the state of the art research in the Emerging Trends in Computing and Technologies. The conference also held an Engineering Design Exhibition (EDX) to provide platform for Students to showcase their creative and innovative ideas and designs. The conference culminated on 16th March 2016.  A large number of academicians, researcher and students attended.
