Objectives of the Programme:
- Objective 1: Clinical Excellence: To equip healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge and practical skills in modern diagnostics, transfusion medicine, iron chelation therapy, and long-term clinical management of thalassemia patients using evidence-based guidelines.
- Objective 2: Prevention & Screening: To develop competencies in designing, implementing, and evaluating thalassemia prevention, carrier screening, genetic counselling, prenatal, and community-based screening programs integrated within national and provincial health systems.
- Objective 3 Diagnostic Competency: To develop the knowledge and technical skills necessary to accurately perform, interpret, and evaluate modern diagnostic investigations for thalassemia—including hematological tests, hemoglobin electrophoresis, HPLC, and molecular techniques—to ensure timely and precise diagnosis, monitoring, and patient management.
- Objective 4: Ethical Practice & Patient-Centered Care: To promote ethically responsible, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered care, including effective communication, genetic counseling, psychosocial support, and respect for patient rights and confidentiality.
- Objective 5: Research & Evidence-Based Practice: To strengthen the capacity of learners to apply research methods, critically appraise scientific evidence, and conduct basic research or quality improvement initiatives to enhance thalassemia managemnet care and prevention strategies.
- Objective 6: Public Health Systems & Community Engagement: To prepare graduates to function as a multidisciplinary task force that contributes to public health planning, policy advocacy, community awareness, and stakeholder engagement aimed at reducing the national and global burden of thalassemia.
Outcomes of the Programme:
- PLO 1: Clinical Management Graduates will demonstrate advanced knowledge and practical skills in modern diagnostics, transfusion medicine, iron chelation therapy, and long-term clinical management of thalassemia patients, applying evidence-based guidelines to deliver safe and effective care.
- PLO 2: Public Health & Prevention Graduates will be able to design, implement, and evaluate thalassemia prevention programs, carrier and prenatal screening strategies, and community-based interventions integrated within national and provincial health systems.
- PLO 3: Diagnostic Proficiency Graduates will perform, interpret, and critically evaluate modern diagnostic investigations for thalassemia—including hematological tests, hemoglobin electrophoresis, HPLC, and molecular diagnostics—to ensure accurate and timely diagnosis and patient monitoring.
- PLO 4: Ethics & Psychosocial Care Graduates will provide ethically responsible, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered care, including effective communication, genetic counseling, psychosocial support, and respect for patient rights and confidentiality.
- PLO 5: Research & Evidence-Based Practice Graduates will apply research methods, critically appraise scientific evidence, and conduct basic research or quality improvement projects to enhance clinical care, prevention, and management strategies for thalassemia.
- PLO 6: Leadership & Advocacy Graduates will function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary task force, contributing to public health planning, policy advocacy, community awareness, and stakeholder engagement aimed at reducing the national and global burden of thalassemia.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates seeking admission to the Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Thalassemia Management, Prevention & Control must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum Requirement:
MBBS or BDS from a recognized university, OR Bachelor’s degree (16 years of education) in Allied Health Sciences / Medical Laboratory Technology / Nursing / Biotechnology / Life Sciences / Genetics from an HEC-recognized institution.
Candidates with relevant postgraduate degrees in related fields may also be considered for lateral entry or credit exemptions, subject to departmental approval.
- Professional Registration
- PMDC / PMC Registration (for medical graduates)
- Relevant licensing or registration for Allied Health / Nursing graduates, if applicable
- Organizational employability evidence (If any) . Candidates should provide proof of current or previous employment in a relevant healthcare, laboratory, or public health organization. Including appointment letter/Experience certificate or Service record indicating relevant clinical, laboratory, or public health exposure.
- Minimum Academic Performance
- CGPA / Percentage:
Minimum 2.5/4.0 CGPA or 60% marks in the qualifying degree
Candidates below this threshold may be considered under conditional admission, subject to departmental review
- Work Experience (Desirable but Not Mandatory)
At least 1–2 years of relevant clinical, laboratory, or public health experience is preferred for candidates from Allied Health, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences backgrounds
- Age Limit
No strict age limit, though preference may be given to candidates below 55 years for workforce development purposes
