The Second International Maritime Conference was organized by National Centre for Maritime Policy Research of Bahria University from 25-27 March, 2008. The three days event was attended by eminent National and International Scholars on Maritime affairs. The conference addressed issues which directly impact areas of Economy, Environment, Security, Education and Technology, within the sphere of Maritime Affairs. The aim of the conference was to address areas requiring focus and suggest policy which would enable us to develop a dynamic and comprehensive revised maritime policy for Pakistan for sustainable development of Pakistan’ maritime potential. The conference was inaugurated by Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmad Hayat HI(M), Chairman KPT. The inaugural ceremony was attended by more than 400 National and International participants. During the first two days of the conference, National and International scholars deliberated on the issues of Maritime Education and Training, Maritime Economy, Environment, and Security. The morning session of the third and final day of the conference was focused on the integration of the issues discussed in context of Maritime sector of Pakistan. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir NI (M) graced the occasion as Chief Guest. During his address, he appreciated the efforts of NCMPR in propelling Maritime centric research activities. In appreciation of the efforts of NCMPR, he announced 10000 sq. yards land for NCMPR building in Karachi. The closing session was also held in the afternoon of the third day. Mr. Shujat Ali Baig, Minister Of Education, Government Of Sindh honored the session as Chief Guest. During the session, Capt. The Second International Maritime Conference hosted some of the most eminent International scholars on Maritime Affairs including Mr. David Griffith from Centre for Foreign Policies Studies, Dalhousie University, Mr. Kanjapong (Pisnupong) Anuratpanich,Director of Training Division , National Disaster Warning Center, Thailand, Dr. Cherdasak Verapat, Executive Director, International Ocean Institute, Malta, Dr. Harro Kucharzewski, MarineSoft, Germany, Dr. Amin Tarzi from USA, Dr. Sarah Palmer from Greenwich Maritime Institute, Dr. James Boutilier and Professor Bari Malik. The efforts of NCMPR were widely appreciated by all the scholars and participants in providing a platform for the deliberation of maritime issues.
